General Suit Care

Proper garment care is essential for maintaining the longevity and sharp appearance of your suit. Always hang your suit on a sturdy, broad-shouldered hanger to preserve its shape, and use a garment bag for storage to protect it from dust and light. Avoid wearing the same suit multiple days in a row, allowing the fabric to rest and recover. Steam your suit to remove wrinkles and let it air out after each wear to prevent odor buildup.

Dry Cleaning

Limit dry cleaning to two or three times a year, as over-dry-cleaning can weaken the fabric. For optimal care, choose a small, reputable dry cleaner offering premium service, and ask them to cover horn and shell buttons in foil to prevent damage. Often, a simple pressing is enough to freshen your suit.

Freshening Your Suit at Home

To extend time between dry cleaner visits, hang your suit outside in the cool, moist night air (under cover in the suit bag) to rehydrate the cloth. This can gently refresh the fabric without chemicals.

Spot Cleaning

For localized stains, ask your cleaner for a spot clean only. For olive oil spots, apply a small mound of talcum powder, let it sit for 12 hours, then dust it off without massaging it into the cloth. You can also gently press a damp cloth on minor stains.

Traveling and Car Tips

Always take your jacket off before getting in the car to avoid wear from seat belts, which can cause irreversible shiny patches on the shoulder and lapel. Whenever possible, hang your jacket on a provided hanger to retain its shape. If a hanger isn’t available, use the loop in the collar.

Proper Hanging for Trousers

To hang trousers correctly, unbutton them, hold them by the base with the crease lines matched, then fold them over the trouser rail of the hanger. Adjust the creases to match perfectly to avoid wrinkles.

Sunlight Exposure

Avoid leaving your suit in direct sunlight for extended periods, such as in the back of a car, as the sun can fade and weaken the fabric over time.
